Kathy Dunne founded Family Life Mediation to help families throughout the circle of life to manage conflict and find peaceful solutions to life’s challenges. Kathy is an Accredited Family and Elder Mediator through the Ontario Association for Family Mediation. She has worked in Family Mediation for 16 years and has helped many families improve their cooperation and communication, She has assisted separating couples to develop shared parenting plans for their children, financial arrangements and separation of assets. Prior to creating Family Life Mediation, Kathy managed Four Counties Family Court Mediation Service, a not-for-profit court connected family mediation agency, and remains on their roster.
Kathy is the current past-President of the Board of Directors for the Ontario Association for Family Mediation and is proud of the work of the Board in promoting Family Mediation throughout the province. She is honoured to work closely with the Executive Director and other board members to represent over 600 Accredited Mediators and Associate Members. As part of the Elder Mediation Committee of the OAFM she is most excited about the opportunities to advance the recognition of Elder Mediation as an option for families in conflict or distress. She is certified as a presenter of the “It’s Not Right” program of Elder Abuse Prevention Ontario, and provides advocacy and education to give a voice to our fragile populations. Kathy is a speaker, educator, advocate and consultant and has served on many not-for-profit boards and committees, including the Special Education Advisory Committee and the Accessibility Advisory Committee of the Peterborough, Victoria, Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board, district council member of The Easter Seal Society and coordinator of the local Easter Seals Telethon, and was a board member of Five Counties Children’s Centre Foundation. In response to the pandemic in 2020, Kathy created the course curriculum and presented the training for OAFM's Online Dispute Resolution Specialist Certificate. This program has been successfully completed by over 75 family mediators in Ontario and beyond.
Kathy was trained as a mediator using the “Interest Based” style of mediation and has recently studied with Dr. Cheryl Picard, creator of the “Insight Mediation” style of conflict resolution. Kathy has training in intimate partner violence and screening for power imbalances. She has security clearance through the Ministry of the Attorney General and provides court connected mediation and information services to the Superior Courts of Justice in Peterborough, Lindsay and Cobourg.
